I've been drumming up business*bah-dum-bump-ching!* in the Front Range region since 1993, performing with symphonic orchestras, theater productions, and, of course, rock bands. This breadth of percussive experience -- including studies at the University of Northern Colorado -- created the backdrop for discovering my greatest passion: steel drums. My steel drum school, Rocky Mountain Steel Bands, has grown to include four community performance groups and several beginner/intermediate classes. I also direct two professional bands -- Strings & Steel and Urban Island -- which have appeared at festivals, headline concerts, and private events throughout 5 states in the U.S. and in Costa Rica. At sea level, I can play Margaritaville on steel drums while standing on my head with my hands tied behind my back. Next time you see me performing at sea level, I'll show you.
In addition to RMSB and Allegro, I currently teach at Centennial Academy of Fine Art Education, where I create new and exciting classes every semester. I'm generally known for teaching with an easy and approachable manner. My students learn the important fundamentals to perform songs they love in a friendly and relaxed environment. Many of my current students have been learning from me for several years, and the consistent feedback is that my lessons are fun and engaging. I actively seek innovative methods for sharing my love of music. What excites me the most is that moment of triumph I witness when a student masters some new, difficult technique!
I've been teaching drum lessons for over 20 years. You may have seen my drum students take the stage at middle schools, high school jazz bands, colleges, or the famed Red Rocks amphitheater. The reason my drum students are successful is that I can draw from vast experience teaching drum set to various personalities at every level, from beginner to pro. When teaching drum lessons, this experience helps me to discern when one student of drums needs to be pushed and challenged, while another drum student might be in need of more patient encouragement and support.Drumming is way more than "hitting things," and teaching drums is as much of an art as playing them.
Drum Lessons in Parker, Colorado
I've been a percussion teacher in Parker, Colorado, offering lessons on drums at Allegro Music since 2004. The drum studio at Allegro is a great place to learn to play drums. This studio includes two high-quality, professional drum sets so I can play right along with my student when needed.
